Jefferson City's Binder Lake - Visual Journey...Missouri |

Binder Lake is a 650-acre park near
Jefferson City, Missouri. It features a
picturesque 150-acre lake with
excellent fishing for catfish, bass,
bluegill, and other species. A boat
launching ramp is provided and there
is an 18-site campground. There are
three ballfields located in the park
and there are picnic tables, a picnic
shelter, and cookout grills. A large
portion of the park remains
undeveloped and the inviting trails are
an excellent source of exercise and
recreation for hikers. Binder Lake is
also an excellent place to birdwatch or to take photos. |
| The lake has a resident flock of
Canada geese. Canadian geese are the best-known
and most widely distributed species
of geese in North America. Its
nesting grounds extend from Alaska
and northern Canada to the
midwestern states of the United
States. |

Great Blue Herons can be
seen here during the spring and fall.
Herons have elongated necks, legs,
and bills. Herons fly with their necks
bent in an S shape, with their heads
supported between their shoulders.
Their wingspan is six feet and is a
beautiful sight as they fly low above
the water. Blue Herons can frequently be seen at Binder Lake.

The tranquil lake can be quite
beautiful especially in the fall when
the autumn colors of the trees reflect
on the calm waters of Binder Lake.
A relaxing place to fish, walk, birdwatch, or have a picnic.
The entrance to Binder Park in
Jefferson City, Missouri is off
Highway 50 West, approximately 2
miles past Capital Mall.
A campground adjacent to the lake
has 18 full hook-up sites with shaded
level concrete pads and covered
picnic tables and grills. Shower and
laundry facilities are also available as
well as boat and canoe rental. For
