Rocky Falls - Visual Journey...Missouri |
|
|
The reddish-brown rock of Rocky Falls is rhyolite porphyry. It formed as
molten rock beneath the earth and flowed as lava onto the surface 1.5 billion
years ago. |
| Because of the hardness of the rhyolite, water erodes only a small
portion in the cracks, creating a "shut in", where the harder rock shuts in the
stream. |
|
|
|
Here is a viewpoint after hiking up a ways to look down on the
waterfall. |
| The waterfall cascades over the rocks into a large pool of water.

Rocky Falls is located on Route NN, off of Route H, east of Eminence
and Winona, Missouri. There is a walking trail, picnic areas, grills, and
bathrooms. |
